WebDec 4, 2024 · If a pry bar is needed, only use light pressure on housings, as otherwise you likely missed a torx bolt if it feels stuck. Drain transfer case fluid after removing the drain and fill plugs with a 14mm allen socket. Mine needed an impact to remove. In my opinion the drain plug at minimum should be replaced, but fill plug is probably ok to re-use.

I had to find a high-grade large bolt (i think it was a 3/4" bolt) and weld it to the end of the filler plug. After welding it i used the hex on the 3/4" bolt to turn out the plug. WebSep 7, 2024 · If it’s one of the plugs with a sealing washer under it they can be very difficult to break loose. Try hitting the head of the plug with a hammer and they typically come out. Many won't fit or grab the plug. Check the local store for a shallow 12point (usually thinner wall than 6-pt) socket. Inspection is a joke. Change it out every 30k miles or 3-5 years.
